It's that time of year where we rock green from head to toe and pretend we are all Irish for the day. Atlanta Travels brings you fun and free St. Patrick's Day events this weekend both for the kids and grown ups.

Big Tex Decatur is kicking off spring with everything we’ve missed during the cold months: live outdoor music, crawfish boils, and beer specials! Even better, NO COVER! Come out on Saturday, March 16th starting at 11 a.m. and jam out to our rockin’ music lineup, the Sam Holt Band, The Higher Choir, Julie Gribble, Deep Blue Sun, and Eric Dodd, followed by headlining band Bloodkin at 8 p.m. Escape Vehicle rounds out the lineup at 10 p.m. with a late night show inside. Big Tex Decatur will also be cooking up an authentic Cajun crawfish boil and serving $3 Pacifico beer.

Kids love parades, so load up the mini van or SUV and head to downtown to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The annual parade begins at Peachtree Street and Ralph McGill Boulevard and proceeds down Peachtree to Woodruff Park. The 2012 St. Patrick’s Day parade in Atlanta is the 130th since it debuted in 1858, and it’s bigger and better than ever. With dozens of marching bands, floats and so much more, it’s the perfect family friendly event for everyone.

This traditional Irish festival features carnival-style rides, a live DJ, a redhead contest, the mayor’s annual green dyeing of the fountain, and great food from local eateries. Proceeds benefit Mustard Seed Communities. No strollers, backpacks or coolers. If you plan on bringing the kids, go early to avoid the later, crazier crowds.

ShamRock The Station

Atlantic Station is hosting ShamRock The Station, Atlanta’s biggest family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Saturday, March 16th — and you and your family are invited!

Starting at noon, families can enjoy Irish dancing, games, face painting, balloon art, and a special Nickelodeon meet and greet until 4:00pm!
For the 21 and up crowd, enjoy premium and craft beer stations with popular drinking games (sponsored by Meehan’s Public House) leading up to the headliner, Tonic!
At 5:00pm, they will wrap up the family activities to get ready for a St. Patty’s Day concert. The evening starts when Red Letter and then Endless Fridays take the main stage. At 5:30pm, Central Park will close for the ticketed concert featuring: Desire and our headliner, Tonic!

***Although all of the music groups performing are kid-friendly, Rock U is actually a band made up of kids ages 7 to 17 years old!
