Best Places to Celebrate the Fourth of July

Fourth of July, America’s Independence Day. The smell of BBQ; red, white and blue themed desserts and patriotic clothing worn by people who are proud to call this country home. Here are some cities  where you can enjoy the red, white and blue festivities.

New York City
  Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks

Macy’s will host the 38th Annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks as it returns to the East River to light up the New York City skyline in the nation’s largest Independence Day pyrotechnic display. More than 40,000 fireworks will be launched from the iconic Brooklyn Bridge and from barges positioned on the lower East River, from the Manhattan Bridge to the South Street Seaport and Brooklyn Bridge Park. The City of New York is anticipating more than three million spectators and millions more watching the live telecast. The decision to move the event back to the East River allows for more residents in Queens and Brooklyn to view the dazzling 25-minute fireworks show than in previous years was held at New York Harbor. Several world famous entertainers will appear at the show, with an announcement of the complete lineup forthcoming in June. Earlier in the day, New York will hold several popular events, particularly the crowd-pleasing Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island.

Fantastic Fourth Celebration
Stone Mountain Park
July 3rd-5th, 2014
Updated for summer 2014, Stone Mountain Park transforms the Lasershow Spectacular in Mountainvision® and its famous natural amphitheater with “More Lights, More Lasers and More Music!” The show includes a lighting feature at the base of the mountain shining up like fingers of light showcasing the 825 foot mountainside.
The addition of an overhead laser canopy effect immerses you as if you are part of the show. Also, laser mirror bounce shots from all directions on the lawn create the effect of lasers jumping over your head. Enjoy the refreshed music playlist featuring 10 new songs including “Let It Go” by Idina Menzel, “Home” by Phillip Philips and Pharell Williams’ “Happy.” You can make this an all day adventure by going on a scenic train ride, hop on the summit skyline, watch a 4-D movie and much more. Entry into park is $10.

                                      Philadelphia

They really know how to throw a party in Philadelphia, especially on Independence Day, but that’s not surprising, given that the city played such an important role in our history, including setting the stage for the nation’s founding fathers to sign the Declaration of Independence here in 1776. Philly’s free party runs from June 25 through July 4, making the City of Brotherly Love home to the longest Independence Day party. The Wawa Welcome America celebration (Wawa is a mid-Atlantic chain of stores) includes concerts, festivals, educational exhibits and movies. Fireworks shows are scheduled on Saturday, June 30 and Wednesday, July 4. This year enjoy performances from The Roots, Ed Sheeran, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Hudson, Aloe Blacc, Ariana Grande and Vicci Martinez before the explosive fireworks finale over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

San Diego, California

Barbecues, beer, bonfires, and fantastic fireworks – if there's one beach destination that packs a party on Independence Day, it’s San Diego. The sprawling shores along Mission Bay and Pacific Beach are crowded with merry sunbathers from dawn till dusk – some dedicated holiday celebrants arrive at daybreak to ensure a prime spot on the sand. Plenty of oh-so-American activities will keep you occupied both on and around the holiday – like the three-week-long San Diego County Fair  on the Del Mar Fairgrounds. But the real action starts after dark, when a no-holds-barred pyrotechnics show lights up the sky before fizzling into the ocean. You’ll hear the explosions all night long, but the largest display (and our favorite) is the Big Bay Fireworks show at 9pm. It’ll be hard to miss the rockets’ red glare shooting up from bay barges, but some of the best viewing is from Shelter Island and Coronado Landing.

Atlantic City, New Jersey
Do AC Firework Spectacular

Imagine standing on the famous AC Boardwalk at the legendary Steel Pier and seeing fireworks everywhere — to the left and to the right and even behind you! On this July 4th, the rocket's red glare will be 10,000 multicolored fireworks that will illuminate the night. The “DO AC Fireworks Spectacular” is four beautifully choreographed, visually stunning and elaborate fireworks shows along the Atlantic City Boardwalk and Marina. The show is 20 minutes long and will be visible throughout Absecon Island. The show is produced by Fireworks by Grucci with support from the Atlantic City Alliance and Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. It will be choreographed to music which will be broadcast by 95.1 WAYV FM radio.
The gorgeous, multi-hued pyrotechnics will originate from four separate locations: the beach near New Hampshire Avenue; Martin Luther King Boulevard; Hartford Avenue; and from the Marina District.

Tybee Island

On Thursday July 3rd, celebrate Independence Day at Tybee island with fireworks on the beach. I must say I have celebrated Independance Day on Tybee and it is soo beautiful. Soaking up the sun on the beach for the whole day and relaxing and night watching the fireworks under the stars. It is a great experience. The fireworks show can be enjoyed from the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion, the beach or anywhere on the eastern side of Tybee Island.

This popular event is free and open to everyone.
