Go to Bed For A Cause!

2nd Annual Atlanta Mattress 500 Race

Looking for a good time in bed? On October 13th, come and watch this crazy and fun event where people race beds on wheels around Atlantic Station! The Furniture Bank of Metro-Atlanta is sponsoring the 2nd Annual Atlanta Mattress 500. Their goal this year is to raise $20,000 so no Atlanta child, veteran, or elderly person has to sleep on a hard floor because they don’t have a bed. Teams of five (four pushers and one rider) will race and compete for best costumes and fastest time.
There will be fun activities throughout the event for kids 13 years old and younger (as racers must be 14 or older). All kids must sign in at the Check-in Table with a parent/guardian. The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta was founded in 1988 in response to the lack of furniture resources for homeless people who secure housing.
The Furniture Bank is the only agency in metro Atlanta whose mission is to provide free furniture to people in need. Clients transitioning out of homelessness, living with HIV/AIDS, and fleeing domestic violence often spend all their resources on a security deposit and first month’s rent, leaving no money to purchase furniture. The Furniture Bank ensures these clients and their children have beds for sleeping, a table for sharing meals, and a couch for relaxing. Furniture provision increases a client’s sense of ownership and confidence, benefits their physical health, and helps maintain stable housing. Race begins at 10:00am so come in your pajamas if you’d like.
After all that fun and play grab a brew at Meehan’s in Atlantic Station celebrating Oktoberfest. With free admission you get to drink $5 Warsteiner pints all day! So come hungry and decked out in your festive German outfits and listen to live music starting at 1pm with Dean James followed by Mix 105.7 and 96.7’s DJ Andre Perry from 3pm-8pm.
